Quality Partners of Rhode Island is Proud Participant in Health Information Technology Standards Panel
Teresa Mota, RN, CALA, RAC-CT, Senior Program Coordinator at Quality Partners of Rhode Island, works as a long-term care and post acute care subject matter expert in the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), with the goal to harmonize and integrate diverse standards that will meet clinical and business needs for sharing healthcare information among organizations and systems. These harmonized standards promote interoperability, enhance healthcare quality and contain costs.
In 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law. A provision in that law, called the Health Information Technology Act provides a $20 BILLION program to stimulate the adoption and use of HIT with a focus on “meaningful use” of certified EHR systems.
HITSP brings together experts from across the healthcare community to:
- Serve and establish a cooperative partnership between the public and private sectors to achieve a widely accepted and useful set of standards that will enable and support widespread interoperability among healthcare software applications in a Nationwide Health Information Network for the United States
- Harmonize relevant standards in the healthcare industry to enable and advance interoperability of healthcare applications, and the interchange of healthcare data, to assure accurate use, access, privacy and security, both for supporting the delivery of care and public health
Teresa Mota has been a member of the HITSP since 2007, but most actively this past year as a subject matter expert on various HITSP Technical Committees. Her contributions are focused specifically on long term care and post acute care assessments and consults and transfers of care. Teresa has extensive experience with long term care assessments – she is a former MDS (Minimum Data Set) Coordinator; and since 2006, she has worked on MDS 2.0 and MDS 3.0 development and maintenance contracts for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Quality Partners encourages the use of Health Information Technology (HIT) in all healthcare settings with the goal to increase effectiveness of communications among healthcare professionals to improve the care received by patients as well as reduce costs.
