Quality Partners of Rhode Island Announces First Group of EHR Certification Recipients
Quality Partners of Rhode Island, a nationally recognized leader in health care quality improvement, announces 17 new recipients of the Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR) designation, which were achieved after completing an intensive training program and passing a written examination. The 17 recipients come from across the state and are made up of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. The limited space training already has a waiting list for its next session.

‘Meaningful Use’ of Electronic Health Records
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced final rules to help improve Americans’ health, increase safety and reduce health care costs through expanded use of electronic health records (EHR). Under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009, eligible health care professionals and hospitals can qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments when they adopt certified EHR technology and use it to achieve specified objectives. One of the two regulations announced today defines the “meaningful use” objectives that providers must meet to qualify for the bonus payments, and the other regulation identifies the technical capabilities required for certified EHR technology. New England Institute of Technology & Quality Partners of Rhode Island Collaborate on Workforce-Training Program To Enhance the State's Effort to Implement Electronic Health Records
The health information technology effort to move medical records into an electronic format has just received a huge financial boost. Quality Partners Continues to Develop the Skills and Expertise of Our Healthcare Workforce
Quality Partners of Rhode Island, in its continuing effort to develop the skill and expertise of the healthcare workforce, has received another grant to further develop its contextualized education program. This latest grant, in the amount of $230,597 seeks to establish new, innovative models of integrated education and training services that lead to career pathways for adults with low literacy or job skills. Career pathways are a means for adults to secure employment within a specific high-growth industry or occupational sector, and to advance over time to successively higher levels of education and employment in that sector.

Quality Partners Announces Staff Appointments for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Safe Transitions Project
As part of our work on the 9th Statement of Work with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Quality Partners of Rhode Island is focusing on improving coordination across the continuum of care. This work, referred to as Safe Transitions, is part of CMS's National Patient Safety Initiative. The Safe Transitions project focuses on a patient’s discharge from the hospital to other care settings, promotes cross-setting communications, and ultimately, aims to improve patients’ transition experiences, self-management skills and outcomes. Employment in Healthcare ~ All Aboard With Quality Partners of Rhode Island
To respond to the Workforce Board’s inclusion of the healthcare industry, and in acknowledgment of the diverse backgrounds of those interested in the field, Quality Partners of Rhode Island created the course FUNdamentals of Healthcare. The aim was to respond to the need for more “contextualized curriculum” for those at “lower ranges of the educational spectrum,” by coupling literacy skill-building with topics required for early entry into healthcare. As is the case for a sizable slice of community, for adults who read at or between the fourth and sixth grade level, finding a job can be difficult. Flu and pneumonia vaccines can be critically important for older people, who are far more likely than their younger counterparts to suffer severe complications from such infections. They are more likely to be hospitalized and even die. "As people age, their immune response isn't as robust," says Dr. Stefan Gravenstein, a professor of medicine at Brown University who specializes in geriatrics and basic biology. "The pieces of the immune system that need to be able to work are still functional, but they're just not as peppy" as they used to be.
